Kobe started as a bench player. He wasn't anywhere as good as he is now. He made the all-rookie second team, not first. Kobe wasn't anything amazing back then. He averaged 7.6 points a game rookie season. Dejuan Blair from this year might be the next Kobe, and the 36 teams before him wouldn't know it.
