Are scott & lyle clothes small made?...help!?

My boyfriend is normally a large in designer brand jumpers and T-shirts but I was advised that these jumpers are quite neat so I bought him and XL I am hoping its going to be ok as he has quite a broad back anyway. Its a suprise for his bday you see otherwise I would get him to try it on.
